I'd been suffering with pretty bad shin splints for the last two weeks, something I haven't felt since before I started running in May 2009.
Once I had been fitted for running shoes, I had been perfectly fine.
But I was starting to get worried when the pain came back and wouldn't go away. So, I figured I'd head to the running store and see if they had a solution or if perhaps I needed new shoes.
And wouldn't you know, the last time I bought shoes was in September 2009.
Since then I've run waaaay more than the 300-400 miles they recommend on one pair of shoes. And I instantly felt better (and have since) once I put the new shoes on.
I'm not sure how I lost track. I mean, buying new shoes is NOT something I generally put off (ha!). But time got away from me and I was suffering needlessly.
Whether you're running or doing the 30 Day Shred, I can't stress how important it is to make sure you have the proper gear. Whether it's shoes, a sports bra, socks, or clothes, they DO make a difference.
Due to the heavy knee action in the 30 Day Shred, we highly recommend new cross trainers, as well as doing it on a carpeted surface. If you're thinking about running, please get fitted for shoes.
Please!
If you're experiencing unexplained pain during your workouts, please take a moment today and check your gear.
