I'm officially on the road for my Mominatrix book tour, though unlike most people, it's pretty spread out of the next few months.
But as someone who does not travel frequently (hello, 3 kids and husband who travels for work), it's going to be quite a challenge for me to keep up my exercise and diet routine.
Fortunately, I was able to get my long run (10 miles in 91:40 woot!) in on Sunday, so I feel okay about the Super Bowl eating. Though one good thing was that I was hosting, so I honestly didn't have time to sit down and just shove food in my face.
But yesterday, I arrived in Boston at my Aunt's house. The Aunt who LOVES to entertain and cook. And I'm going to my cousin's amazin Italian restaurant for lunch. PIZZA.
PIZZA!
Oy.
Overall, I did pretty well yesterday. But I did indulge in a few cookies with my coffee.
And I know how that can go. I've already had a few cookies over the last few days. And a few more teaspoons of sugar in my coffee. And then. And then.
So, I'm really going to hold fast to my rules. Only water. No eating after 8pm.
And I'm going to get my butt outside for a run in the bitter Boston cold.
What are some other tips for staying with your plan as best you can when you're on the road?

Take advantage of the fitness facilities that are available on the road! I've enjoyed great runs in hotel fitness centers, a swim in the pool at my husband's grandparents' building, a hike around the grounds near our B&B in Vermont... There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a change of scenery or try out a new type of workout based on what's nearby.
Diet-wise, I tend not to worry. I end up walking crazy amounts on vacations (shopping, sightseeing) and try not to overindulge in restaurants. That's generally sufficient to keep me on track.

Make sure you bring your favorite workout DVD's (Jillian). Those always travel nicely and you can find a DVD player in most hotel rooms these days!

Or you play the DVD in your laptop. I shredded to my laptop over Christmas break. And plan to do it again next week in Italy.

Staying at friends house, especially those you haven't seen for a while is the worst for your training - for them it's just one day - an excuse for lots of nice food and a couple of drinks - if you're on the road though their one day adds up to 10 for you!
And then there's the hotel. Lovely food, prepared and cleaned away for you. Especially the buffet breakfast mmmm.
My trick there is, and it does cost a bit more - get room service breakfast ordered the day before just after the evening meal - that way you are not tempted by all the lovely smells when you are starving at breakfast time:)
