I'm a frequent reader of Roni's Weigh and saw her tweet this morning about her 30 day challenge. And being the lemming that I am, I figured that I would give it a try.
And since we don't have anything for September, I figured maybe the Shredheads would like to give it a whirl as well.
It's pretty simple - three times a week for 6 weeks you follow a very simple plan based on your initial test results. Your goal? 200 Sit-ups, 200 Squats, and 100 Push-ups.
Don't fall over.
So, if you're in, you'll want to test yourself tonight (or just start late), and then get started tomorrow with your first day of training. You have to admit - it's free, it doesn't take long, and you should have some killer legs, abs, and arms by the time the month is over.
1. Follow the test for the each: Push-ups, Sit-ups, Squats
2. Determine your rank and therefore your exercise "schedule"
3. Do it three times a week for 6 weeks
4. Take the final test
Here are my test results:
Push-ups: 3 (But they were real!)
Rank: 1 (I suck)
Sit-ups: 92 (They are crunches as per the site)
Rank: Excellent
Squats: 80
Rank: Excellent
So, if you want to participate, feel free to post on your blog and leave the link in the comments. Or you can just leave your results in the comments if you don't have a blog.
You can find lots of support from Roni's community Blog to Lose.

OK, tough to do when I'm just on Day 2 of "restarting" the Shred (after a month off) but here was my results (I truly have no shame). Fortunately, I found that being in the over 40 group was good for me:
Push ups----real ones, meaning no bent knees which I never, ever do: ahhahahahahahahaha. I suck. Barely 1. I think. I don't think my arms work.
Crunches: the first one was sore b/c of the Shred stuff, so I quit after 25 in fear of doing something hurtful to myself. But, hey, over 25 at 40+yrs means I'm average!
Squats: I got to about 26 (lost count watching the Food Channel while I did them) which is, hey!, Very Good! So, basically, I could never beat someone up in a fist fight but I could kick them to death.
So, yeah, I'll figure out how to sign up but I'm already laughing that they expect that I'll be doing 5 pushups by Day 3. They'd better let me bend my knees.

I'm in. Here is my first post from today. http://mommymeanderings.com/challenges-w1-d1

Ohh, I've been looking at this for awhile! I can do 30 wall pushups... I should probably start attempting real ones or at least girly ones. Crunches I can do but situps (on a proper bench, as per my Personal Trainer - that sounds so snooty... it was a free session at my gym) are really hard. I can only do about 5-10 at a time).
I'll blog about this later this week!

Okay the initial tests are done. I'm in the 30 year old category.
Squats - 100, rank excellent, but now my legs feel like jello.
Pushups - 15 (but they were girly, I can't even do 1 regular), rank 3.
Situps - 53, rank very good.
I'm ready to go, I've tried the pushups and situps before but gave up after week 3, hopefully the challenge will keep me on track!

squats 25- very good for my age
girly pushups- 12 rank 2 for my age
situps- 70 excellent for my age (it's a pity my abs don't reflect that excellence!)

Oh, this sounds like a good plan! (Notice, I didn't say "fun"...ha!) I'll have to look at this in more detail! Thanks for sharing this! (If I can do the Shred as many times as I've done it, I can do ANYTHING. Right? Right.) :)

Pushups - 17 real ones (rank 3)

Count me in - I'm going to do the initial test tonight and then work this in to my running and Jillian routine (why I continue to torture myself with her I'll never understand).

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for supporting my 3 challenges - 100 Push-Ups, 200 Squats and 200 Sit-Ups.
To be mentioned on the same blog as Jillian and Bob is truly an honor!
Good luck to you all,

Is there a push up rank worse than "I suck"? Perhaps "I suck even more"? That's about where I would be at with real pushups. :-) -Christine

By the way Kristen; if I may, I'd like to offer a copy of my "7 Weeks to 100 Push-Ups" book to one of your followers after the 6 weeks are up.
Feel free to choose based on any criteria you like - most improved, hardest worker, most disciplined, most inspirational....anything you like.
Here's a link to the book if you'd like to check it out:

Let me know what you think,

Okay, I finally did the test, and I am shocked at my results. GO SHRED!
Pushups 18 (for realz, yo!) I'm at Level 3.
Situps (crunches) 100 Excellent. It's only because Jillian abused me.
Squats 125 Excellent.
And then I collapsed. Here we go!

Situps - 65 - Very Good (probably could have done more but this was after yoga...)
Squats - 60+ - (I stopped counting when I got distracted by the TV)
Pushups - 10 - Rank 2

I decided to try this today because I didn't feel like shreding. I should have just shred...
10 push-ups
50 squats (I felt like I could have done more but my knees didn't agree)
30 sit ups - turns out I was doing them wrong... Oops.

Today:
In sets, I'm age 54...
Pushups: 80/60/50/50
Situps: 60/50/50/40
Squats: None today
