beware the guy* that:
1. wants to be a part of the family too soon
2. likes being taken care of (you already have kids)
3. seems like he's financially ok and then isn't
4. never/always asks about the kid(s)
5. has mommy issues (guys like to talk about the women with father issues, but the guys with mommy issues are waaaaaay worse)
6. is still stuck on his ex-wife
7. is stupid
8. acts like a sophomore year frat boy
9. is passive aggressive
10. eats with his mouth full (or has other annoying habits)
and as a bonus: NEVER SETTLE!
*some of these i may have had experience with . . .

You put it perfectly. NO SETTLING - everyone's happiness is on the line. But it's a tough one, because figuring out the BALANCE of happiness (how does my happiness affect the children? Happiness versus security? Happiness versus ...???) is not easy.
But it's worth working for.

The part where you said the man should compliment your current life is so spot-on. No settling allowed!

Nice piece. Especially the summation - even more important not to settle because, you know, there are kids on the line too.
