Sort of Like Having a Birthday at Christmas
Having a birthday at the beginning of May was never really an issue. Sure it was an asspain when I got to college and ALWAYS had a final on my birthday. But May 7 has always been a lovely, almost warm day.
Until I became a mother and that meant my husband had two gift-giving holidays (for me) right in a row. And you'd think that someone who made it through the Air Force Academy and can fly a plane upside down on purpose would not be scared of this task.
But basically, he dreads it with every ounce of his core - so much so that I usually end up with a card and a big old fat nothing.
FOR BOTH DAYS.
This year I bought myself something just in case that happened. But still, it's nice to get a little present from someone else -- you know, that's an actual surprise.
But, if you're like me and you worry about whether you're going to get something or not OR you just want to join me in making Mother's Day great for you or someone else, will you please join me in a doing a few things.
First, I'm co-hosting a "Blog Blast" (think carnival without the weird clowns) with Parent Bloggers Network on Friday. You simply write a post, publish it that day, and email us the url. We'll round up all the posts and we'll pick a winner at random to get a $100 gift card top Spafinder.
SWEET.
The topic is "What Makes You a Mother" and it's inspired by Kevin's attempt to wear a preggo suit all month. It got us wondering -- can you really feel what it's like to be a mom? And then, what makes us a mom? If we can't carry our kids, but we're raising them, aren't we still moms?
We'd love to hear your thoughts -- just post on the topic and link to Parent Bloggers, www.lightiris.com, and anywhere else you'd like to send people. Just do it ANYTIME on FRIDAY!
Second, you must enter my Real Mom Truths contest -- if you did one before, just redo it quickly and enter. You could win an iPod and a link on True Mom Confessions (HELLO TRAFFIC).
And here's a listing of some cool Mother's Day contests and gifts.
There -- now there's no chance that you will end up like me. Old and giftless.

For what it's worth I read an article that said that spouses have the hardest time buying presents for each other when/because they know each other so well... or something like that.
Jodi, my hubby leaves on friday for 2wks. I'm pretty sure I'm getting something great because of it (though there's always that seed of doubt).

well, I'm with you on the May b-day. My b-day is today and I always had a final on my b-day.
My husband is away on business, and he is missing mothers day also. He better be coming home with a little blue Tiffany's box.
