Don't Worry Sam. You'll Always Be My Top Chef
WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO ILAN! And seriously, why would Marcel ever pick Michael to help him? And I love how Marcel tried to take credit for the dish he screwed up that Sam had to help him with. Leave your comments about the finale!!!!
With all this baby hullabaloo I almost forgot about the Top Chef Finale.
Okay. That's a total lie. I timed my labor perfectly so that I could not only catch Top Chef, but Grey's Anatomy as well.
Ha.
C'mon. What's hotter than a two men cooking gourmet food that I can't pronounce in portions perfect for a large caterpillar?
I know. NAKED hot men cooking.... right?
But seriously, what's with this finale? Fine. I get the drama between Marcel and Ilan. I see why they picked them. But STILL. How many "foams" can one person make? (And honestly, I don't think I've ever eaten a foam nor do I really want to). And I don't care what Judge Tom says but I think kitchen behavior should be factored into the judging.
Clearly, it should have been Sam and Ilan, particularly short hair Sam.
He might be tastier than anything he's actually cooked.
So, who do you think should win? How did Michael get that far? What's with the whole Cliff/Marcel thing? C'mon people. Let's hear it!

Marcel makes for "good" Tv, I guess. I'm all for Sam & Ilan, but what about poor Elia, especially after she shaved her head -- she ought to get points for that! :)

So relieved that the Monkey Marcel did not win. And he was not a gracious loser, either! (There were these snippets that ran during Top Design - which was really good, but good lord they have all the money there. Why does Project Runway get the $50 dollars per each challenge!?) Rosie had Marcel on The View today and there he was with his Wolverine hair - bah! But yes, Sam was gorgeous - I love how he referred to Marcel as "the kid". I'm sure he and Ilan will go quite far. That sorbet dish looked amazing...

Yay! At least Ilan won over Marcel. And, I have to say, despite the too-mch-Spain criticism, I thought his dishes seemed more Spanish inspired than just the same old stuff. That macadamia nut gazpacho with and the lobster broth in the 3rd dish sounded so good!
I couldn't believe it either that Marcel, the little weasel, both tried to take credit for Sam's dish AND blame him (who was the one who saved his ass) for forgetting the fish because he was jealous. No, Marcel, you would have done that, not Sam. He saved your butt instead.
Did anyone watch the premiere of the new top design show? I'm going to try to catch a rerun at a better time, but I think I've missed the supposed top chef dirt that was going to be dished. Anything interesting?

How did I not know that you too were a Top Chef devotee? And damn, I have plans tonight! Thank goodness for the dvr.
I was all about Sam, who also happens to be entirely doable. But since a friend works at Casa Mono with Ilan, I'm happy to have him instead.
The real problem is not one of them was a superstar, ready to open his or her own place. They're all wonderful up and comers. I'd give everyone in the cast another few years and then there'd be some serious competition.

I was hoping for Sam and Cliff in the final two. Elan is great, but Marcell? F@%K THAT! I don't even want to watch it now.
But, I still will anyway!!!!!! :)
Love Sam. A perfect guy to drool over while my husband was deployed! Kept me going those lonely months, that little hottie!

I completely agree about Sam!!! From the beginning, he was clearly the most talented, well-rounded, and mature chef (as well as the hottest!!!). I think they eliminated him because he was such a clear winner, and because they are complete idiots and wanted what they thought would be maximum drama between the two people that they thought would provide it. Personally, I am much more interested in the drama of a real competition between the best people.
Ilan is talented, and may deserve to be in the top 2, but definitely seems limited in his range (i.e., it's all about Spain). Elia is also very talented, and seemed to deserve to be in the top 2 as well. As for the "not cooking" complaint about Sam, didn't Marcel "not cook" either?!!! Marcel has seemed to have a few good moments throughout the competition, but not as many as the others. Plus, in addition to his foams, hasn't he cooked salmon almost every freakin' time lately?!!! I mean, I love salmon, too, but learn to cook something else!!!! That is on top of being completely obnoxious and unbearable to all of his competitors. I thought it sucked that Ilan and Sam bailed on Elia when even she, who tolerated Marcel the best throughout the entire show, was sick enough of his crap to bring it up to the judges. They should have backed her up with more examples. Of course behavior in the kitchen matters!! How many times have they emphasized the importance of good leadership? Over and over again, and Marcel wouldn't be able to lead a single person out of the whole group. And, what about last season?!! They made Tiffany out to be this total beeatch because she was competitive, tough and not-so-nice, and in the finale it was a HUGE deal that no one wanted to work with her, she wasn't a good leader, blah, blah, blah. Oh, I get it, it only matters if a WOMAN's behavior is bad, a man can get away with it because "it's a competition," and the others are "whining." I think that there has definitely been some underlying sexism on this show. SO many women were eliminated in the beginning (a completely unfair %, I think), while that idiot Michael made it almost to the end!
Okay, sorry to rant so long, but none of my friends are watching and I needed to get that out! :)
And, sadly, since they've gone this far, I bet Marcel is going to win. :(

YES YES Sam for President!!!!!

I think that there is a good chance Marcel might win. I feel like Bravo has been painting Elan as a bully, perhaps so that when Marcel wins people won't be as upset. It'll seem more like the scrawny geek bested the big mean guy.
Honestly, I think I would enjoy eating Marcel's food, but I doubt I would turn my nose up at any of the contestants' dishes. Except that whole chicken liver/chocolate thing.
In closing, I would like to add the following statement:
Sam = Hotness

I can't stand Marcel! If he wins, it is the last episode I'll ever watch! He's such a little weasel. I love Sam, too. I thought Elia was very talented. Go Elan!

The contest may not be about what goes on in the kitchen, but the show certainly is. And I'm afraid that if Project Runway is any clue, that Marcel is going to win. Of course on PR I wanted the "bad guy" to win.
Marcel takes himself way too seriously and seems to have no self-awareness. Also the whole food/chemistry thing goes against what I thought the contest was about.
For me it was always between Elan and Sam.

I totally think the final two should have been Elia and Sam. I found that about half-way through the season I had a raging crush on Sam. I am a vegetarian, but I would eat any meat Sam gave me.

If that creep Marcel wins then I am so done with this show! How did he even make it this far? Sam should have won but sine he is now out of the running I would settle for Elan being the winner. Short hair Sam is so yummy!

I finally got to watch last week's Top chef and was floored when I saw that Elia and Sam were elimnated. What is going on here?
Sure I can believe Elan in the finale, but that little weasel Marcel has no place there. He reminds of that wine dude from last season. He was annoying and added drama to the show, but they had sense enough not to let him go too far.
I agree kitchen behavior should be a factor. If not, then why not have chefs fighting it out over ingredients, cooking tools and stove space. It is not Cooking WWE Raw.
I am not liking this season too much. Last season it seemed to be more about the food and creativity of the chefs. This season it is just about the drama. Whatevah!
P.S. I was hoping that Cliff would be in the finale, but still wanting Sam to win. I think they let the best chefs go.

I was so sad to see Sam go. I think the ultimate finale would have been Sam vs. Cliff. If Marcel wins, blech.
Posted by: Jenn | January 31, 2007 at 08:44 AM
I also wish Sam had made the finale, but I think his biggest mistake was not COOKING anything in the last challenge. To non-food people it doesn't seem like such a big deal, but to a group of chef/judges it's huge! I will have to support Elan because I will be crushed if Marcel wins!

I was totally depressed when that crazy little Marcel made it. Not that I say that out loud to anyone but you. lol.
Short hair Sam was for sure the best thing. *sniff*
