I Can Think of About 14 More Offensive Things to Do On a Plane
Did you hear? A woman got thrown off a Delta flight because she was breastfeeding her toddler in the backrow by the window next to her husband where I'm pretty sure no one could see her.
YEP.
And she's got a lawyer.
Damn straight.
I don't care how you feel about boobs being waved around. The crap you see on the newsstands is about 10 times worse than what you see next to a breastfeeding mom in public. I've been around a ton - I've been one - and guess what? I've never seen a nipple.
And if I did. I wouldn't care.
IT'S a NIPPLE. A big brown ugly nipple.
And let's be honest here. Have you been on a plane? Next to a stinky person, or better someone who has taken off their shoes to expose their stinky-ass feet? OR EVEN BETTER, someone who is yaking?
C'mon. I can think of WAY more things to be thrown off a plane for (drunken man making a pass at me, idiot next to me reminding me my flight # is 911, the dude who took a big crap in the bathroom and made the whole plane stink, the screaming NON-NURSING toddler...).
Delta. You suck.
And if I have to fly with you, I'll let my child scream the whole flight and do nothing. Because God forbid I feed my child AND try to keep him/her quiet.

:) -- Clearly I would have not been able to nurse for as long as I did if she used me as a sippy cup. Many props to you for sticking it out.
And may I be so lucky this next time... hehe.

Kristen,
Yours is the point I was trying to make. Surely you have met the type of women who get up in arms over breastfeeding at every turn. At the same time, anyone traveling with a toddler should get some extra TLC from the airline. This is something I have always experienced, from Delta and others. My point was simply that I doubted the woman was booted for breastfeeding.
As for your toddler not treating your breast like a sippy cup-- can you come over and teach mine some nursing ettiquette. She seems to have missed that class!

MAN BREASTFEEDING GETTING SO MUCH CONTRAVERSY. BREASTFEEDING IS SUPPOSE TO BE A GOOD THING ESPECIALLY FOR THE BABY. WHY THIS WHEN PORN AND HALF NAKED WOMEN ARE SEEN ALL OVER THE PLACE. YOU DONT HEAR ABOUT THEM GETTING THROWN OFF OF PLANES OR NOT ACCEPTED IN PUBLIC PLACES. COME ON PEOPLE...

Hey here is my 2 cents. I think the other problem has to be the blanket itself. I have friend who was a flight attendant and she says that those blankets are not washed very often at all. In fact they are reused by all kinds of people during the flights. Don't be fooled by them being in a bag, they are just refolded and put in another bag. Besides, if the child will not have a blanket over them they won't. Have you tried to cover a child who will not be covered? I'm just sayin'.

I agree Shannon, however, if Delta Supports breastfeeding, then they should get rid of the FA pronto...

This story angered me when I first read it, but then I read more and more and more about it and I feel like I finally heard the whole story. This woman wasn't kicked off the plane for breastfeeding; she was kicked of the plane for her confrontation. Not that I agree with that either, but it wasn't as simple as "You're breastfeeding - not going to cover up? Then please get off." From my understanding, the FLIGHT ATTENDANT was the one who was offended (what is UP with THAT??) and asked her to use a blanket, which she refused - so then the altercation and the booting off. So I think the flight attendant is the culprit and should be fired. The airline's policy is it boot off passengers who get into altercations, so yes, she should have been booted off for that (and I can just imagine how irate she was and I think that was probably a good call). Now what led to the altercation was unacceptable and is the fault of the flight attendant. Delta has already publicly said they support breastfeeding, so I am okay with Delta. I am not okay with the freak of a flight attendant who was offended by a passenger feeding her infant.

Haha. Jenn. I know, right?!
I imagine it had to do with age as well. But what a better to way to occupy a rammy toddler. LOL.

I don't think it would have been such an issue if the child wasn't nearly 2. Mine are only 3 months old and don't like a blanket over them, and I don't like using a blanket. I can't wait to see what the outcome of the lawsuit is. Part of me wants to go fly Delta and tandem nurse the twins :)

I believe that this woman was not bothering anyone. If someone sitting near her was offended then the flight attendent should have found another seat for the offended person to move to. How about people who snore on the plane! Are they told not to sleep? No, they aren't. At least not on any flight that I have been on. This woman was doing what God made our bodies for when it comes to caring for our children. Remind me never to fly Delta!!!

Actually, not all 22 month olds (like MINE) treat "it" like a sippy cup. And seriously, a blanket over a 2 year old ain't going to work.
I'm quite certain that any woman - including yourself - probably doesn't want to be showing her boobs in public, so what's the definition of discreet. And who was complaining? The staff? The folks on the plane?
My point is - people do way more offensive things on planes than nurse - and they are not asked to put their shoes on, or hold their poop in, or turn down their radios...

Wait a minute. I want the whole story out there for everyone to know. No, I don't work for Delta, and I've been on plenty of flights with a nursing baby with NO problem.
This woman was nursing a 22 month old. We all know how hard it is to keep your 9 month old focused on nursing, imagine an almost-two-year-old. They are curious creatures who treat your breast like a sippy cup. Take a sip, detach, look around, take a sip.
The flight attendant asked the woman to cover herself with a blanket provided by the airline.
Each of us knows a militant nursing woman. You know, the ones who get immediately confrontational if anyone gives them a second glance while they nurse. The ones who feel like nursing is a "cause". I know these women. I was raised with them. I was ONE of them until my eldest REFUSED to nurse after 5 months and I sunk into a deep depression over it.
I am pro-nursing. I wish I lived in a country that, as you say, found the magazine covers more offensive than a woman feeding her child. Shoot, when I'm nursing, I'd like to walk around topless just for convenience. And, hell yeah, I've been at a nurse-in at my local mall because some ass-hole security gaurd told a lady she was being indecent by nursing her baby in the food court.
I'm not defending the airline or the woman nursing, but I can say I'd like to hear the WHOLE story before I determine blame.
