Mom Fashion 101

Don't forget to enter my contest! You have until September 20!

I don't claim to be anywhere near fashionable. If I had my druthers, I'd be wearing my old funky pseudo punk look. But I guess I've been living in the South too long. Oh and that's right, I'm pregnant. The funky punk pregnant look is hard to achieve on a limited budget in the heart of the Deep South, my friends.

My hot, sexy, and brilliant mom pal GGC brought up the fact that there is this idea that moms are all 37, living in the 'burbs, and more worried about cooking dinner than looking good. And for those of us who do care, look at the stuff they try to sell us on. A cardigan with a waist belt? I haven't really seen anyone actually get away with the waist belt outside outside a sweater.

Granted, you won't see me shopping in the junior's section, preggo or not, but I do agree that the styles for us "tween" moms (tween being those who want to be fairly stylish and still look close to our age without going under or over by about 10 yeras) are a bit limited.

Okay, very limited.

And while I know that with 2 under 2 I'm not going to have tons of time to stay hip to what's in fashion, I do know that looking good helps me feel good. And boots with capris just doesn't cut it.

Just these past few days (stresssss management maybe?) I've been shopping. Online. Hey. You can't find Gap Maternity in the stores anyway. But I've bought a bunch of stuff - not sure if I'm convinced I must look good to feel good, or if I'm just tired of wearing crap, but shopping I did.

I'll let you know how it turns out. However, I can't wait to sport my new fabulous CHUCKS!

So, tell me. What's your style? And if you currently don't have one, what would it be if you did?

And I'm officially on the road this weekend, arriving in my new state of residence (PA) on Sunday. That means 2 full days of driving with one dog and one 2-year old confined to a car seat.

I will be a transplant no longer, however, I'm living with my in-laws. Hooray for blog fodder and live-in babysitters! If you want to read more about my in-laws (it's good, I promise), search my other site, or click here. I'll return on Monday with exciting adventures from the road. And if they're not exciting, I'll make them. Darnit. That's why they pay me the big bucks.

I dress to my mood, I don't wear frumpy sweats and bedroom shoes to the store, not even to gas station as most every one seems to do before 9:am here. quite frankly its gross.Any way I can go stylish-goth one day and be cheetah print and flowing skirts the next, to cowgirl-up complete with hat. unless I'm A regular most ppl don't even recognize me If I go somewhere 2 days in a row.I used to do pageants/modeling as a tween so I have alot of good makeup experience and don't look like an idiot when I change it up. I say If it matches and makes you feel good wear it to hell with fashion of the week crap. be a trend setter not a trend-getter. Just don't get scary with the make-up.

Hi kristen, I'm a recently devoted fan/ discouraged blogger who totally flunked out on my first post on your site... what a freak! Anyway, the best of luck to you on this new leg of your life, and also the contest you are sponsoring is really sweet.

I'm also struggling to try to find a happy medium between being fashionable and looking like I wish I was still 16. It's really hard. And have you seen what Cosmo printed this month? They are trying to say the 80's are coming back? Come on now!

I bought wicked maternity clothes on ebay. no joke.

The closest gap is 2 hours away. Perhaps why I didn't know.

COOL. I can actually try that shizit ON.

Thanks for the linkage, darling and more importantly thank you for spreading the word that NO NO, WE WON'T FRUMP!

This is an important issue. Style is everything. Okay, well, it's ALMOST everything. Shiyat, it's SOMETHING at the very least! Love.

Newsflash: As of this year Gap Maternity is available in stores, at least in New York. Maybe PA too?

Style? Hmmmmmmmm. It seems like every time I browse my closet, I think I want to wear something comfortable, cute and hip, but not so hip that I look like I'm really trying. My usual outfit is a pair of jeans with a fitted cotton t-shirt. I do most of my shopping at the Gap, Banana or local boutiques in town.

Right now I'm wearing Banana courdoroys, a Gap cotton button down shirt and Cole Haan mules.

How 'bout you?

My style falls somewhere between comfortable and casual with a tiny bit of eclectic thrown in for when I'm feeling like I want to wear something colourful. Vague, huh? I'm mostly a "brown leather sandal" girl in the summer and either well-worn running shoes or slip-ons (Lands End Moc's) during the winter (hate boots!). Tan/khaki pants, mostly, t-shirts and casual sweaters - nothing with logos, rarely stripes, lots of colour though.
I'm soooo stylish!
